I’ll start off by posting the email I got:
“I would like to offer you the opportunity to apply for a position in the Student Transition Engineering Program (STEP). Please view the following website http://www.eng.vt.edu/academics/step.php to explain the purpose of this program. During this program you will be provided with intensive academic instruction in calculus, chemistry, and engineering problem solving. At the end of this program you will take the calculus diagnostic test. If you successfully complete the STEP program (including passing each course with a B or better, passing the calculus diagnostic test with a 70 or better, and attending all STEP activities),I will personally guarantee you a place Engineering Exploration (EE 1024) in the fall semester 2007. This opportunity is only available to you if you choose to participate in STEP. If you are interested, we are inviting you to apply to STEP. Please return the application form by Wednesday, May 11, 2007.“
Check out the site listed if you want all the nitty gritty stuff.
Basically, they’re offering to apply for 5 weeks of summer classes where I take Chemistry, Math and basic Engineering in which I can do the whole getting used to college before I actually start college thing, plus if I pass everything, I get automatic enrollment into the required engineering class. In return, I get one week of break right after graduation, 5 weeks of classes and 2 weeks of break in August before move-in.
The class listed is required for transferring into engineering at Tech and is available to non-engineering students only in second semester after signing up on a waitlist.
Pros:
-Get used to VT faster
-Get used to dormlife
-Become eligible for immediate placement into engineering (<- biggest pro)
-Possible $$$ for books
Cons:
-Summer break cut down to three weeks total
-I have 11 days to decide
What the hell would you do?

Dear FutureMe,
I bet there’s another one of these that says happy birthday on it.
Well here’s another written over a year later, after I’ve changed a bit. Hope they stay like this.
You know what I mean.

I have felt like shit for the past two days, I haven’t had a good meal since Thursday, school has somehow become an even more boring waste of time and I am excited as hell.
